Brisbane Roar secured a 2-1 victory over Western United in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 27 action on Thursday night.
First half goals from Sam Klein and Florin Berenguer sealed Roar’s first home win of the season against a Western side who found the back of the net through Hiroshi Ibusuki.
Klein opened the scoring in the second minute when he slammed home a first time effort after being played in by Jacob Brazete after some brilliant work by the winger down the right.
Berenguer doubled Roar’s lead with his first goal of the season in the 24th minute when he capitalised on a defensive slip and poked home a finish.
Ibusuki gave the visitors a lifeline on the stroke of half time when he ghosted in behind the Roar defence and slid a finish into the bottom corner.
Neither side was able to further impact the scoring in the second half as Roar held on to climb back above Perth Glory into 12th position on the league table.
Thursday’s match saw Jack Hingert hit even more milestones after last week becoming the club’s record appearance holder when he played his 304th Roar match against Melbourne City.
Hingert made a club record 273rd A-League appearance for Roar on Thursday with the match doubling as game 300 in the competition for the defender, who started his career with North Queensland Fury.
Ben Halloran will also played his 200th A-League game via the bench in Thursday’s match, the winger who has also played for Gold Coast United and Adelaide United has appeared 48 times for Brisbane.
Focus for Ruben Zadkovich’s side now turns to Tuesday’s clash against Adelaide United at Suncorp Stadium. Get your tickets HERE
