ALM R29 Match Preview: Central Coast Mariners vs Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar close out their 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign with a trip to face Central Coast Mariners at Industree Group Stadium on Friday night.

Roar look to continue their positive run of form in their final match of the season, with Ruben Zadkovich’s side on a three-match unbeaten run that’s included victories over Western United and Wellington Phoenix.

Florin Berenguer scored the game’s only goal as Roar defeated the Phoenix 1-0 in their last outing in what was their final home game of the 2024/25 season.

Central Coast had a bye over the weekend and played out a 2-2 draw against Macarthur in their last outing.

Mark Jackson’s side, who sit tenth on the league table, have won just one of their last 12 games.

Last weekend’s Round 28 results cemented Roar’s 12th placed finish, while the Mariners look to avoid having Wellington Phoenix leapfrog them on the final day.

This weekend’s round 29 action will confirm the make up of the Australia Cup plays offs set to take place in Darwin in May.

The Hahn Australia Cup 2025 Final Rounds Playoffs feature the four clubs that finish 10th to 13th in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men 2024/25 regular Season with 10th playing 13th and 11th facing 12th.

Roar will face Wellington in the Playoff, however a win against the Mariners and a Phoenix victory over Perth would see the Roar take on Central Coast instead.

Friday’s Round 29 clash at Industree Group Stadium kicks off at 7:35pm AEST and will be broadcast live on Paramount+

WHAT WAS SAID

“The confidence is very high from the team at the moment.

It’s a great result these games that we’ve been going through. It’s been a very big boost – a confidence booster for the team so it was very nice to get those results in the past couple of games.” Hosine Bility

LAST TIME WE MET

The Mariners ran out 3-1 winners when the sides went head-to-head in the reverse fixture at Suncorp Stadium in January.

The visitors took an early lead through an own goal before Ben Halloran levelled the scores in the 70th minute with a back post volley on the end of a Corey Brown cross.

Harrison Steele reinstated the visitors lead with an 82nd minute header before a deflected Arthur De Lima strike in second half stoppage time sealed the 3-1 win for Mark Jackson’s side.

Roar lead the head-to-head between the two sides having won 34 of the previous 62 A-League meetings between the pair.
