ALM R4 Match Wrap: Melbourne Victory 2-0 Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Melbourne Victory in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 3 action at AAMI Park on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Nishan Velupillay and Jason Geria sealed all three points for the home side who moved to the top of the league table with Saturday’s win.

Velupillay put the hosts in front in the 37th minute when he poked home a first time finish at the near post after a jinking run into the area by Reno Piscopo.

Geria made it two in the 76th minute when he rose highest and sent a Ryan Teague corner into the back of the net with a booming header.

Roar’s best opportunity of the afternoon fell to Thomas Waddingham on the stroke of half time, with the youngsters snapshot on the end of a Keegan Jelacic cutback forcing Jack Duncan into a strong save from close range.

Off season recruit, Adam Zimarino played his A-League minutes for the club when he came off the bench in the 71st minute, while Louis Zabala also picked up his first minutes of the season via the bench.

The A-League pauses next weekend for the international break before Roar face Adelaide United in Unite Round action at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, November 23.
