Brisbane Roar battled to a 2-2 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 8 action at Commbank Stadium on Saturday night.
All four goals came in the opening 30 minutes of the contest with Roar finding the back of the net through Thomas Waddingham and an own goal to twice level the scores against the Wanderers who struck twice through Brandon Borrello.
Borrello put the hosts in front in the tenth minute when he headed home after a goalmouth scramble on the end of a Josh Brillante free-kick.
Three minutes later Roar were level courtesy of a Gabriel Cleur own goal with the defender turning a Halloran cross into his own net following some good work by the visitors down the right flank.
Borrello reinstated the hosts lead in the 21st minute with a swerving free-kick from range that wrong-footed Macklin Freke.
Roar restored parity in the 31st minute through a powerful Waddingham strike that found the bottom corner, leaving Lawrence Thomas with no chance after Jay O’Shea caught Nicholas Milanovic napping in midfield.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock in a lacklustre second half with substitute, Jacob Brazete coming closest for Roar with a sliding effort on goal at the back post in second half stoppage time.
17-year-old defender, Lucas Herrington made his A-League debut, playing the entire match and performing admirably in the heart of defence as Roar picked up their second point of the new campaign.
Quinn MacNicol also played his first minutes of the new campaign, coming off the bench in the second stanza while Adam Zimarino made his first A-League start from the club.
Next up for Ruben Zadkovich’s side is a return home to face Perth Glory at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, December 21. Get your tickets HERE
