ALM R9 Match Wrap: Brisbane Roar 0-1 Perth Glory

Brisbane Roar suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Perth Glory in Isuzu UTE A-League Round 9 action at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

A second half David Williams strike proved decisive as the visitors edged a cagey affair in sweltering conditions at Suncorp Stadium.

Abdelelah Faisal almost opened the scoring in the 19th minute when he got in behind the Roar defence and flashed a strike wide of the far post from a tight angle.

Keegan Jelacic came closest to finding the back of the net for Roar when he rattled the woodwork with a thunderous strike from range that came crashing back off the underside of the crossbar in the 30th minute.

Adam Zimarino had a golden opportunity to find the back of the net on his first Roar appearance at Suncorp Stadium, when he blasted an effort over the bar from inside the area after being found by a brilliant Florin Berenguer flick.

Nicholas Pennington forced Macklin Freke into a strong save with a powerful header at the far post off of a Taras Gomulka corner kick.

Former Roar forward, David Williams netted the games only goal in the 69th minute with a deflected strike at the back post that found its way into the bottom corner on the end of a Josh Risdon cross.

Roar pushed hard for an equaliser but were unable to find the back of the net with Jay O’Shea and Neicer Acosta coming closest for the hosts in the dying stages as Glory held on for a 1-0 win.

Next up for Roar is a trip to face Western United at Ironbark Fields in their final match of 2024 on Sunday, December 29.
