ALM R9 Match Wrap: Brisbane Roar 0-3 Central Coast Mariners

Brisbane Roar suffered their first home defeat of the 2023/24 Isuzu UTE A-League season, going down 3-0 to Central Coast Mariners at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night.

Marco Tulio put the visitors ahead in the 27th minute before a second half Angel Torres brace sealed the win for the Mark Jackson’s side on a very wet night infront of 6,855 people in Brisbane.

Tulio opened the scoring midway through the first half when he latched onto a Storm Roux through ball, rounded Macklin Freke and rolled a finish into the empty net.

Torres doubled the hosts lead in the 55th minute when he slammed home a first-time finish after Alou Kuol’s pressing saw the Mariners snatch possession on the edge of the Roar area.

Jonas Markovski, who made his return from injury off the bench came closest to getting Roar on the scoreboard with a sliding effort that forced Danny Vukovic into a diving save in the 87th minute.

Torres rounded out the scoring in second half stoppage time when he slid a finish into the bottom corner on the end of a strong run from Josh Nisbet.

Friday’s result will see Roar sit either fifth or sixth at the conclusion of the weekend’s Round 9 Isuzu UTE A-League action.

Next up for Roar is a trip to AAMI Park to face defending Premiers, Melbourne City on Thursday December 28.
