ALW R6 Preview: Brisbane Roar v Adelaide United

Brisbane Roar return to Suncorp Stadium in Liberty A-League action for the first time since 2019 when they take on Adelaide United as part of Sunday’s Indigenous Round double-header.

Roar, who start the weekend in sixth position aim to return to winning ways after being edged out 1-0 by Western United at Ballymore last weekend.

MATCHDAY GUIDE: Suncorp Stadium Double-Header

For the first time in club history both the Roar ALW & ALM sides will wear Indigenous kits in Sunday’s double-header at Suncorp Stadium.

New Roar Head Coach, Alex Smith, who took charge of the side for the first time against Western United last weekend said his side were primed to bounce back against Adelaide on Sunday.

“It’s a really, really big occasion for the club as a whole and the girls are really looking forward to it,” Smith said.

“I really, truly believe that this week we’ll give a much better account of ourselves than we did over the weekend.”

Adelaide United are winless (D1 L4) so far this campaign and have conceded the most goals (13) of any side heading into Round 6.

Smith said his side are eager to execute their attacking philosophy and score some goals in front of the home fans.

“Goal scoring is definitely something that we’ve been working quite a bit on at training and putting away the chances that do come, so hopefully all the work that we’re putting in starts to show on the pitch,” Smith said.

Roar and Adelaide have gone head-to-head 22 times in ALW action with Roar winning on 14 occasions, Adelaide five and there having been three draws between the pair.

Roar will be without fullback Chelsea Blissett, who suffered a season ending ACL injury in last weekend’s clash against Western United.

Sunday’s match kicks off at 4:45pm following the earlier ALM clash against Perth Glory at 2pm as part of the Roar’s first double-header in four years.
