ALW Rd13 Match Wrap: Perth Glory 0-0 Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar return home with one point after a 0-0 stalemate at Macedonia Park on Saturday night against a second-placed Perth Glory.

The scoreless match saw Brisbane put up a fight until the very end, claiming majority of possession throughout the entire game.

Head Coach Alex Smith will be pleased with the number of chances his side created on Saturday night to add a point to their standing.

In-form Roar striker Mia Corbin had a strike from range in the 32nd minute that floated over the bar but contributed to Brisbane’s continuous pressure up front.

Just before the break, Tameka Yallop drove into the box and showcased an effort that also flew above the woodwork.

Just minutes into the second-half, Perth gave away a penalty after a handball in the 18-yard box. Captain Eash Norrie stepped up to convert but is unsuccessful after goalkeeper Morgan Aquino saved her effort to the bottom right corner.

Roar were unable to find the back of the net but asserted their dominance away from home in what ended with a scoreless scoreboard.

Smith reflected on the result, saying that he was proud of his side’s performance in the West.

“I thought we controlled the game quite well which was pleasing for my side of things. First half, I thought we were very dominant. Another day, we could’ve been a couple goals up and when you don’t take the chances and put that away, you allow teams to get back in a little bit which Perth did in the second-half for a 15-minute spell,” Smith said.

“In terms of a team performance away from home, a long trip, a late kick-off, it’s a positive performance,” he added.

“The story of my tenure so far is a lot of chances and another missed opportunity but really proud of the girls, the way they played today.”

Roar take on another challenging opposition with a clash against Western Sydney Wanderers next Saturday evening at Marconi Stadium in hopes to continue gaining more points on the board.
