An Open Letter to Schools from CEO David Pourre

RE: Brisbane Roar Skills Training Centres in Schools

Dear Schools,

As we begin the new school year together, Brisbane Roar wishes to welcome you once again into our Roar family, through our Skills Training Centre program.

By becoming a Skills Training Centre site in 2022, you are providing students aged 8–12 a direct pathway into the Brisbane Roar Academy and, one day, into our fully professional A-Leagues setup.

We at Brisbane Roar recognise the essential position our schools hold within local communities and appreciate the incredible potential schools have to foster an early love of football and contribute to this state’s player pathway. It’s our hope and aim that together we can broaden the sporting opportunities available to our kids and empower them with the skills and confidence they need to chase their footballing aspirations.

The Brisbane Roar Academy has become more active than ever before within Queensland’s player development space. The club is delighted to have seen several graduates secure professional contracts at home, across Australia and overseas. Our two most recent senior debutants have been youngsters Louis Zabala, from the small town of Giru in North Queensland, and Gympie’s Sam Klein, both of whom developed as players within the Academy before earning opportunities at the highest level in the country. To see them break into the professional ranks with our club, which proudly represents the entire state, was a wonderful snapshot of what the Academy is all about.

Our ambition is to find and nurture more of these talented Queenslanders, beginning with the 8–12-year-olds who join up with a Skills Training Centre. We’re looking to support and welcome kids into the game, some of whom are perhaps yet to discover they have a talent and passion for football. We believe in delivering fun experiences whilst teaching them to Play the Brisbane Roar Way.

With the help of our schools, we can make this a reality for years to come.

Regarding the Skills Training Centre at your school, should you need any support this term by way of marketing, coaching or registrations, please reach out to my team and they will provide assistance accordingly.

We look forward to a great 2022, and together let’s #BringTheRoar.

Yours in Football,

David Pourre
