Brisbane Roar’s final opponent for their upcoming AFC Champions League campaign has been confirmed with Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan beating Bangkok Glass 3-0 in the final play-off match overnight to secure the final place in Group G.
Beijing will now travel to Queensland next week, playing the Roar next Wednesday, 25 February at Gold Coast Stadium, Robina in the first match day of the 2015 competition.
This is the second time Brisbane will face Beijing in the group stage of the continental competition, having faced them in their inaugural 2012 campaign. Both matches (home and away) finished 1-1.
“In my eyes, we’ve got unfinished business with Beijing so I’m glad to see they’ve won the play-off to join our group,” Brisbane Roar Football Director Ken Stead said.
“I think we could have beaten them both times back in 2012, particularly the match at home, and it’s great to have an opportunity to play them again.
“They are a big club and we are looking forward to the challenge, for sure.”
Tickets for the fixture are currently on sale via Ticketek at the low price of $10 (adults) and $5 (children) with free train travel to and from Robina included in the price.
The Roar’s remaining group stage fixtures are against Suwon Bluewings (Tuesday, 17 March) and J-League club Urawa Red Diamonds (Tuesday, 5 March) are also on sale with a special three-game ticket package available for purchase at $25 (adults) and $15 (children).
The result means the club misses out on a reunion with former Roar skipper Matt Smith, who now plays for the Bangkok side.
