BRFC to compete in inaugural Surf City Cup

Brisbane Roar will take part in a pre-season tri-series alongside Hyundai A-League opposition at Carrara’s Croatian Sports Centre, home of NPL Queensland outfit Gold Coast Knights.

The inaugural Surf City Cup was launched this morning on the Gold Coast, and will pit the Roar in fixtures against the Newcastle Jets and defending Hyundai A-League Premiers Perth Glory.

Robbie Fowler’s men will face the Glory at the Croatian Sports Centre on Friday, 30 August (6:30pm KO) before backing up against the Jets on Sunday, 1 September (4pm KO).

The tri-series is presented by The Magic Group, an organisation that supports junior footballers on the Gold Coast.

“This new tri-series tournament will deliver a hat trick of editing new games for our growing soccer community on the Gold Coast,” The Magic Group CEO Adem Poric said.

“Gold Coast families will get the chance to see top players competing in a quality venue at great value prices.”

Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre says the tournament again sees the Roar continuing its commitment to developing and promoting football across Queensland.

“The Surf City Cup will be a great opportunity for the Gold Coast football community to see Queensland’s only Hyundai A-League team in action against high-quality opposition,” Pourre commented.

“We’re committed to bringing the Brisbane Roar to all parts of Queensland. We will be travelling to both Gladstone and the Fraser Coast during pre-season, and have recently announced we will be bringing three Hyundai A-League games to Redcliffe’s Dolphin Stadium this season.”
