Last week, Telstra and Brisbane Roar teamed up to deliver a couple of clinics at two of our grassroots community clubs with Pine Rivers Athletic on the north side and Logan Village Falcons on the south side hosting each of the sessions.
The clinics were provided to discuss and offer advice on,
• Tackling cyber bullying and cyber safety for children.
• Healthy, Body & Mind.
• Focus on Young People – presented by Project RockIt.
• Teamwork.
“Telstra is a sponsor of NRL, AFL, Hyundai A-League and Netball and we’ve set out to deliver a grassroots nationwide program where we get stars from each of the sporting codes down to local grassroots clubs and influence kids to play sport,” explained Telstra Customer Engagement Specialist Duncan Armstrong
“On this occasion football by teaming up with Brisbane Roar, and to help tackle cyber bullying with a program presented by Project RockIt.
“The aim is to influence kids in anti-cyber bullying, get them to rub shoulders with some of their sporting heroes that can inspire them to reach their dreams and maybe even deliver their own Telstra clinics in the future.”
Each venue attracted in excess of over fifty participants who got to rub shoulders with Roar players such as Brett Holman, enjoy training sessions run by the BRFC ‘Roar Active Program’ and also listen to and engage in a presentation by Project RockIt on tackling cyber bullying and cyber safety.
Brisbane Roar Community Football Program Manager Andy Pinches explained how the clinics came about, “The Telstra and Brisbane Roar campaign came out of Brisbane Roar’s partnership with Telstra to coordinate a joint community clinic. We are fortunate as a club to be partnered with an organisation who shares mutual values and be able to be a part of Telstra’s broader campaign of creating positivity and educating young people about anti-cyber bullying.”
Armstrong was also delighted by the response at both venues where the clinics were held.
“There was a great vibe at both venues and the clubs were just the most brilliant hosts for us to bring out our Roar Active Community Coaching Team for the sessions. It was also great to see children from other clubs attending the sessions,” he added.
“All of my coaches were impressed with the enthusiasm and ability from those who took part. It was great to observe them taking on advice while having a smile on their faces.”
