Brisbane Roar were victorious over then top-of-the-table Western United after an electric performance by Shea Connors put the Roar on top 2-0 in Saturday’s showdown at Perry Park in the Liberty A-League.
Western United started the match on the front foot, finding their first opportunity in the 7th minute where striker Hannah Keane intercepted a poor pass from Brisbane defence and had a shot from long range that was saved easily by Hensley Hancuff.
Katrina Gorry put through a long ball for Connors in the 18th minute who outran the Western United defence and took a shot first time off a half-volley, hitting it sweetly into the top right corner to see Brisbane on the scoreboard first.
Brisbane found another opportunity in the 20th minute where Kijah Stephenson took a touch and struck it right to the crossbar.
Western United found a chance in the 61st minute when Angela Beard put a cross in for Hannah Keane, but she was unable to direct it into goal.
In the 92nd minute the Roar secured the win after Tamar Levin put through a glorious ball for Shea Connors to tuck it into the bottom right corner to get her second for the afternoon and get Brisbane the three points.
Brisbane Roar will face Western Sydney at Wanderers Football Park next week as their bid to find a top four finals spot continues with three games remaining.
