Brisbane make it three consecutive wins at home

Brisbane Roar were victorious against Newcastle Jets after winning 3-0 on Saturday at Kayo Stadium to make it three consecutive wins at home.

Henry Hore found the opener after a clever shot and turn to bury it into the bottom left corner in the 34th minute.

After Henry Hore went down in the box, Jay O’Shea stepped up for the penalty in the 70th minute and calmly fired it to the bottom left of goal.

Stefan Scepovic found his first goal for the Roar in added time after meeting Carlo Armiento’s cross, guiding the ball into the goal while on the ground, after a scrap in the box.

The three points move Brisbane up to eighth place on the ladder and the Roar will be aiming to continue this climb.

The win against Newcastle Jets at home makes Interim Head Coach Nick Green just the second manager in the history of the club to win their first three home fixtures after John Aloisi in 2015.

Green was very pleased about how his squad bounced back from previous results with a win against the Jets, especially doing this in their last game at Kayo Stadium in the Isuzu UTE A-League season.

“One of the things I said when we walked through the door was, “we’ve got to find a way”, and that’s what we’re trying to do and finding a way to get the best out of the group,” Green said.

“What a way to bounce back, last game at home, last game here, it was a fantastic response really,” he added.

Green believes his squad showed grit and resilience on Saturday night and now hopes they can back this win at home with a victory against Wellington Phoenix next week.

“There is some quality in there and we’re just trying to harness it, and if you want to be successful, your home games are crucial,” he said.

“But what’s really important, and we haven’t done it yet, is back it up. We’re more than capable.”

“We’re hoping for a late push and see what happens. We’ll give it everything we’ve got.”
