Brisbane picks up three points in Adelaide

Brisbane Roar are returning home to the Sunshine State with three points after a 0-1 win over Adelaide United at ServiceFM Stadium in the Liberty A-League on Sunday afternoon.

Adelaide’s Chelsie Dawber provided the first glimpse of action in the 35th minute after having a strong shot at goal, however it was directed straight to the hands of goalkeeper Hensley Hancuff.

Nearing half-time, a late chance for Adelaide was missed as Nanako Sasaki’s free kick glided over and met Maruschka Waldus for a header that just grazed the crossbar.

The first 45 remained scoreless after consistent efforts from Brisbane’s Hancuff providing some top-draw saves against Adelaide’s attack. Adelaide had higher possession and control of the game but had trouble converting their chances. Hancuff providing the difference in the first half.

The commencement of the second half saw needless running and exhaustion from both sides which set up unnecessary chaos in two separate collisions. This saw Katrina Gorry clash with Dylan Holmes and both Analee Grove and Emilia Murray knocking down Brisbane’s Jessie Rasschaert.

Igniting the contest, Brisbane’s Hollie Palmer was able to deliver a free kick in the 77th minute that took a bounce and met Rasschaert’s perfectly timed header, marking the first time Rasschaert has scored in the Liberty A-League.

In a last effort from Adelaide, Jenna McCormick attempted a shot outside of the 18-yard box however this just served to highlight Hancuff’s goalkeeping performance with yet another great stop.
