Brisbane Roar is ready to fight for the first trophy of the 2018/19 season as John Aloisi’s side face Melbourne City in a blockbuster FFA Cup tie tomorrow night (7:30 pm KO).

After a sharp training session at Redcliffe’s Dolphin Stadium on Monday morning, the Roar are looking forward to the added pressure that the cup competition brings.

Speaking to media at Dolphin Stadium on Monday, recruit and former Melbourne City player Stefan Mauk says that the team’s improvement will show tomorrow night.

“We’ve improved on every performance during this pre-season and we are getting better every week,” Mauk said.

“We are looking forward to seeing a big crowd tomorrow night that we know will be cheering us on.

“Our talented side is looking forward to this challenge and we are ready to make the most of home ground advantage.”

Mauk is no stranger to Redcliffe’s Dolphin Stadium after making an important contribution for Melbourne City in the team’s 2-0 FFA Cup 2017 victory over Peninsula Power.

Tuesday night’s fixture represents Mauk’s first competitive match for the Roar against his former club, which he says only elevates his drive to win.

“It’s a little bit strange to see my name on the other team sheet for our clash, but once you get out onto the field you forget about all of that and go out to try to win,” Mauk continued.

“The boys are all really excited. This is our first real chance to test our skills after eight weeks of hard pre-season training.”

FFA CUP: All you need to know

The FFA Cup competition has been the trophy that has eluded the Roar in recent years, Mauk says that a win will be massive for the Roar’s confidence heading into the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.

“Tomorrow night is a massive opportunity to fight for the chance to claim a trophy, we are working to win every game and become champions of this competition,” Mauk concluded.
