Brisbane Roar 2023/24 Season Awards Night at Emporium Hotel South Bank

Brisbane Roar announced their 2023/24 award recipients and celebrated these club achievements on Monday night at Emporium Hotel South Bank. 

Macklin Freke took the opportunity to become starting goalkeeper with both hands and cemented himself between the posts this season. Freke’s confidence and growth over the campaign saw him awarded the Gary Wilkins Medal, while also taking out both the Fans’ Player of the Year and Outkast Outstanding A-League Men’s Player of the Year.

    The Isuzu UTE A-League squad collectively voted for Jay O’Shea as their Player’s Player for the third season in a row after scoring 7 goals and making 4 assists so far.

    After starring in the Australia Cup and becoming an exciting young talent for the club, Thomas Waddingham broke onto the A-League scene and has scored 6 goals across 21 games since. 

    This breakthrough season saw the 19-year-old take out Young Player of the Year as selected by Head Coach Ruben Zadkovich. 

    Sharn Freier had a stellar season in the Liberty A-League after netting 2 goals and contributing 5 assists, establishing herself as a key player in the squad. She impressed regularly on the left wing, which led to her earning her first call-up for the CommBank Matildas.  

    She was awarded Player of the Year, also known as the Kate McShea Medal, presented by the first captain of the Roar Women’s team, Kate McShea who led her team to victory in the inaugural 2008/09 season.

        Freier took out the Young Player of the Year as awarded by Head Coach Alex Smith, and Player’s Player as voted collectively by her teammates, along with Fans’ Player of the Year after a season to remember for the 22-year-old. 

        Liberty A-League Golden Boot was awarded to Mia Corbin after scoring 8 goals across her season with Brisbane. The American also received the award for Ausenco Outstanding A-League Women Player of the Year presented by major sponsor Ausenco. 

        CEO & Chairman Kaz Patafta and COO Zac Anderson presented Sharujan Sivasubramaniam with Club Person of the Year, while Hiro Suzuki was awarded Volunteer of the Year.
