Brisbane Roar add defensive steel with signing of Austin Ludwik

Brisbane Roar are excited to confirm the signing of reigning two-time NPL Queensland Player of the Year, Austin Ludwik.

The 27-year-old central defender joins Roar on a deal through to the end of the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign from Gold Coast Knights where he captained the side to two NPL Premierships & Grand Final victories.

Ludwik also captained the Queensland State Team that faced Roar before beating Victoria in the battle of the State’s late last year.

The Queenslander, who played his junior football for Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach, Merrimac and Bond University, has previously been part of the Roar’s NPL program playing for the club between 2014 & 2016.

Ludwik, who’s leadership qualities, aerial ability and passing game has made him a standout at NPL level said to sign for Roar was a dream come true.

“I’m super excited to be here, grateful for the opportunity and to get my first professional deal which has come a little later, a bit of the long way round to get here but I’m very proud to do it in a Queensland club being a Queenslander and I’m very excited to get going,” Ludwik said.

“For the remainder of the year I just want to get involved in the group as a senior player now, be a leader and help the team kick on and finish a lot stronger than it’s been so far and I think the playing group has the players there to do that and I think I can be a part of that and help.”

Ludwik will wear the number six jersey and is in contention to make his A-League debut in Thursday’s Round 18 clash against Wellington Phoenix at Sky Stadium.
