Brisbane Roar will become the first Hyundai A-League club to reach 100 wins if the team secures three points against Newcastle Jets at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

Following Saturday-s 2-1 victory over Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand, Brisbane notched up 99 wins in 220 Hyundai A-League fixtures since the league-s inception in 2005.

Foundation player Matt McKay is in his seventh season with the club following a two-year stint abroad in Scotland, South Korea and China between August 2011 and August 2013.

“It-s pretty incredible isn-t it?” the 30-year-old said.

“It-s just a milestone really but to see our consistency over nine seasons and to get to 100 wins first is an achievement in itself.

“But we want to win titles, we want the most titles and come April, May that-s where we want to be so our aim is to get as many wins as possible before then.”

Since re-joining the club in the off-season, McKay has been consistent in saying he believes the Hyundai A-League has improved substantially, on and off the pitch, since he was last playing in Australia.

“The standard, the crowds, the TV audiences, the calibre of players that are here is continually improving,” he said.

“I think it-s more entertaining as well, there are a lot more teams that will play their own brands of football – and they-re calling it that – the passing game, it-s great for the fans.”

Newcastle were the last team to defeat the Roar four weeks ago at Hunter Stadium, an Adam Taggart brace giving the home side a 2-1 win in atrocious weather conditions.

Brisbane host the Jets this Friday, 20 December at Suncorp Stadium. Kick off is at 7pm. Tickets available from Ticketek.
