Brisbane Roar can confirm they have appointed Nick Hegarty as Head Coach of the club’s B-Team.
Alongside leading the B-Team program, Hegarty will work across the A-League Men’s environment with a dedicated focus on individual development, supporting both B-Team and A-League Men’s players. That includes ensuring players transitioning from the B-Team into the first team environment are prepared, and assisting first team contracted players on their continued development.
Hegarty joins the Roar from NPL Victoria club Hume City FC, where he served two spells as Head Coach from 2017 to 2022, and again from 2025. He first joined Hume City as a player in 2012, winning the Football Federation Victoria Gold Medal twice and finishing as one of the club’s all-time leading goalscorers. He moved into a player-coach role in 2017, completing his coaching licences before retiring from playing at the end of the 2018 NPL season to focus on coaching full time.
In his first spell in charge, Hegarty led Hume City to the 2019 Dockerty Cup, the club’s first major silverware and oversaw its full junior NPL program alongside the senior side. He returned in 2025 and guided the club to a second-place finish in the 2026 NPL Victoria regular season.

“I’m a firm believer that developing the individual ultimately strengthens the team. With that at the heart of my approach, I’m excited to contribute to the growth and success of the entire men’s football department.”
Speaking on the importance of the role, Sporting Director James Gow said: “The B-Team is an important part of our pathway, and this role creates close alignment with our senior team by putting individual development at the centre of both environments.
“Developing local talent and providing specific individual development are key pillars of our football strategy. Nick is an excellent coach with a strong track record of developing players, and we believe he is the right person to drive this program and prepare our players for senior football.”
