Brisbane Roar FC adds Austrian Marcel Canadi to Isuzu UTE A-League squad

Brisbane Roar FC has bolstered its squad with the signing of attacking midfielder Marcel Canadi from HNK Šibenik who compete in Croatia’s top division – SuperSport HNL.

Canadi said he was excited to join the Roar and looking forward to the new challenge.

“It’s a new step, a new experience being from Europe,” he said. “It’s the first time I’ve been so far away from home but I’m excited and can’t wait to get started.”

“I have a good feeling that I will get along very quickly with the team,” Canadi added.

Canadi joined Borussia Mönchengladbach youth squad as a 16-year-old before moving to Austrian Bundesliga club SC Austria Lustenau where he spent three seasons.

The 25-year-old also featured at Austrian clubs Amstetten and SV Ried before making the move to Croatia in mid-2022.

Having played in three different European leagues, Canadi is looking to bring his skills to Brisbane Roar, and make his mark on the competition.

Head coach Warren Moon said Canadi could provide a lot of excitement for the team and fans.

“He’s an exciting young attacker who has plied his trade in Europe and comes to us at a good age, very technical and very mobile,” Moon said.

“He has the ability to play a number of positions.”

“We can play him higher up the park as an attacking midfielder, he can play wide but also as a bit deeper so that is good for us,” he added.

Canadi will wear jersey no.21 for Brisbane Roar.
