Brisbane Roar has restructured its Football Department as preparations for the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 season continue.
As part of the restructure Jeff Hopkins will head up the club-s National Youth League squad, while former NYL coach John Sime will assume a chief scout role for the club.
Hopkins joined the club as an Assistant Coach at the start of the recently completed season after a highly successful stint as Head Coach of the club-s Westfield W-League squad.
Head Coach Mike Mulvey said Hopkins- work with the younger players throughout the season made him the logical choice to fulfil the NYL coaching role.
“Jeff is tactically astute and his one-on-one work with the young players will be of great benefit to their development,” Mulvey said.
“As someone who has worked with the first team, Jeff is completely aware of the expectations we have of our players and is in a fantastic position to prepare young players for the demands of professional football.”
Sime has been part of the club since its inception in 2004, having held positions as an Assistant Coach, Community Football Manager and most recently as National Youth League coach.
Mulvey said he was delighted to keep Sime-s vast knowledge at the club and looked forward to working with him in his new position.
“John has been involved in the game for a very long time,” he said.
“He has done excellent work with the National Youth League team, helping to foster talent like James Donachie and Corey Brown and ensuring their training and methods mirror those of the Hyundai A-League squad.
“As such, he is in the perfect position to help identify players who will fit in with our footballing philosophy.”
An announcement on a new Assistant Coach will be made in due course and the club will make no comment on the matter until an appointment is made.
