Brisbane Roar had their third pre-season hit out as a team on Wednesday night at A.J. Kelly Park winning 2-0 against Peninsula Power FC.
The match again saw Head Coach Ross Aloisi incorporate players from the NPL squad to provide them with match minutes as they continue developing alongside the senior players.
Henry Hore scored the opener in the 26th minute after a turn and shot by Thomas Waddingham set him up for a tap in.
After the break, Roar returned to the field hungry for a second goal.
Defender Kai Trewin found the back of the net with a great header from a Jay O’Shea corner to make it 2-0.
The 22-year-old displayed a solid performance on the night, putting on the captain’s armband to lead an all-NPL side in the second half.
Aloisi was pleased that the younger players are growing into the squad and learning his playing structure.
“We also had the young players come in tonight, and the most pleasing thing for me is that they really understand our structures and the way we want to play,” Aloisi said.
“We’re going to need those players this season with the restructure of the playing group.”
Aloisi highlighted the pre-season conditioning the players are undergoing, playing back-to-back games within five days.
“We wanted to make sure that they were under a little bit of fatigue and get some more minutes in their legs and build that fitness level that we need to go into the Australia Cup game.”
Next, Brisbane Roar take on the Rochedale Rovers on Sunday 6 August.
