Brisbane Roar secures exciting young striker Jonas Markovski

Brisbane Roar welcomes talented young striker Jonas Markovski to the 2023/24 Isuzu UTE A-League squad from NPL Victoria club Altona Magic.

The 24-year-old local talent won the race to the Golden Boot and Players’ Player with 19 goals after producing a stunning breakout season for Altona Magic.

Continuing on from an extensive recruitment process, Brisbane Roar is excited to secure another Australian young talent, focusing upon a renewed vision to build strong foundations for the future. A key focus has been securing depth in attack, whilst strategically aligning with the club’s new DNA and values of developing and nurturing young talent.

With generational talent running throughout the Markovski family, Altona Magic Head Coach is none other than Jonas’s father, John Markovski – a 20-time Socceroo, who represented the Olyroos at the 1992 Barcelona Games after emerging onto the scene as a 15-year-old in the 1986 NSL season with Sunshine George Cross.

Markovski describes this opportunity as “a dream come true” as he looks forward to playing at Brisbane Roar and under Head Coach Ross Aloisi’s management.

“It’s an absolute privilege to be in the league, to have an opportunity to play under Ross and all these great players, I’m looking forward to the season,” Markovski said.

“I’m just going to play it game by game, I would love to be involved in the squad, but I obviously have to earn my way in. However long that takes, it’s just a process and we’ll see how we go from there.”

“Just looking forward to the debut and to see where the season takes us at Brisbane and see what happens with myself.”

Markovski will look to bring his scoring prowess and flare to Head Coach Ross Aloisi’s Brisbane Roar side after impressing in pre-season.

Aloisi recognised Markovski’s determined mindset and believes that with his ability to score goals, he will be a great addition to the squad moving forward.

“He did really well in the Victorian Premier League in a team that finished fifth and to win the Golden Boot goes to show that he is a goal scorer. It’s something that we’re looking to bring into the team, not just a player that is going to work hard but also someone that is a proven goal scorer and winner,” Aloisi said.

“Jonas has done it over a number of years in Victoria, and he has come in and took his opportunity once arriving. Jonas should be very happy and proud.” Alosi added.

Aloisi spoke about the importance of recruiting and developing young talent, offering players a platform to flourish as professionals.

“It’s important that we take our time, and we work together to recruit the best young players and people, offering local talent an opportunity to grow and develop. We believe we are providing the best environment for all players to excel and show their best self.”
