Brisbane Roar sign Marcus Ferkranus

Brisbane Roar have bolstered their defensive stocks with the addition of Marcus Ferkranus, who signs a two-year contract ahead of the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s season.

The 21-year-old centre back arrives in Brisbane from LA Galaxy and has represented the United States at youth level.

A product of the LA Galaxy Academy, Ferkranus recorded one assist in 55 appearances across six seasons played with LA Galaxy II in USL Championship and MLS NEXT Pro play.

During the 2024 campaign, the Santa Clarita native recorded one assist in eight appearances across all competitions for the LA Galaxy’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Ventura County FC.

At international level, Ferkranus helped the U.S. U-20 National Team qualify for the 2023 U-20 FIFA World Cup in Indonesia and the 2024 Olympics in Paris after making five appearances (4 starts) during the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship.

Additionally, Ferkranus started and played 90 minutes for the U.S U-20 Men’s National Team in a 3-0 win over Fiji at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Argentina.

The 21-year-old was born in California but won’t count towards the Roar’s visa quota through his Australian mother, who was born and raised in Sydney.

Ferkranus lived in Noosa between the ages of six and ten and several members of his family currently live in Brisbane.

“I’m very excited to be coming to play for the Roar and I’m ready to give everything to this club and for these fans,” Ferkranus said.

“This was the first professional club I watched live as a young kid growing up here and it means so much to me to come back here and fight for this badge.

“I’m excited to be playing for a great new coach and ready to bring lots of success to this club. I want to help bring a championship back to Brisbane.”

Ferkranus, who is the Roar’s third confirmed new signing along with Harry Van Der Saag and Ben Warland will link up with his new teammates when pre-season commences at the end of June.
