Brisbane Roar sign Ryan Lethlean

Brisbane Roar has bolstered it’s defensive stocks with the addition of Ryan Lethlean, who signs on through to the end of the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

The towering 21-year-old, defender arrives in Brisbane after seven years with his home town club, Melbourne Victory.

Lethlean rose through the ranks at Victory before making his professional debut against Perth Glory in the Australia Cup in 2021, scoring in a penalty shootout win for Tony Popovic’s side.

The left-footed defender, who played his junior football with Moreland City, Sydenham Park and Keilor Park made 17 appearances for Victory’s NPL side during the 2023 season.

After playing as a striker in his younger years, Lethlean was converted to a central defender by current Roar assistant Luciano Trani when the pair worked together at Victory.

Lethlean, who has a developed a reputation for his imposing defensive nature and ability playing out from the back said he couldn’t wait to get started in Brisbane. 

“Roar play attractive football, a brand which is free-flowing, attacking and very enticing to get involved in,” Lethlean said.

“I want to play as many games as I can, but more importantly win as many games as possible and help the team push for finals football at the end of the season.

“It’s a great bunch of young men, the culture and the standard that the boys are setting and asking of one another is something that I want to be a part of.”

Lethlean, who will wear the number 44 jersey has begun training with his new teammates and is available for selection for Sunday’s Unite Round clash against Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium.
