Brisbane Roar is excited to announce the signing of 27-year-old forward Asumah Abubakar from Grasshopper Club Zurich. The former Portuguese u19 international, of Ghanaian descent, brings a wealth of experience and attacking prowess to the Roar’s frontline.
Abubakar’s professional journey began in the Netherlands, where he developed at Willem II before making a move to MVV Maastricht in the Eredivisie. In 2019, he transitioned to Swiss football with SC Kriens, impressing to earn a spot at FC Lugano in 2021. The following year, Abubakar signed with FC Luzern, making 62 appearances and scoring 17 goals before transferring to Grasshopper Club Zurich for an undisclosed fee.
A dynamic forward known for his blistering pace, technical skill, and goal-scoring instincts, Abubakar has nearly 100 appearances in the Swiss Super League, making him a valuable addition to the Brisbane Roar team.

Abubakar has signed for the remainder of the Isuzu Ute A-League 2024/25 season and will wear the number 11 jersey. Abubakar is set to join his Roar teammates in the coming days.
