Caletti: Roar not resting on laurels

Brisbane Roar midfielder, Joe Caletti says his side wouldn’t be resting on their laurels ahead of Friday’s Isuzu UTE A-League Round 8 clash against Western United at AAMI Park on Friday night.

Roar head into Friday’s match on a four-match unbeaten run including an impressive 2-0 away victory over Adelaide United in their most recent outing.

Following their strong start to the new campaign Ross Aloisi’s side sit in second position on the A-League ladder, just a point shy of league leading Macarthur after seven rounds of action.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s match, Caletti put his sides strong start to the new campaign down to the high standards being driven by both Ross Aloisi and the playing group.

“Ross (Aloisi) holds really high standards and that trickles down to the rest of the group,” Caletti said.

“We’ve got a great group of senior players that help drive those standards, so I don’t think there’s any like secret ingredient you know, it’s just the work we put in every day.”

Conversely to the Roar, Western have endured a difficult start to the season, sitting bottom of the league and without a win to their name since Round One.

Caletti, who played for Western United boss John Aloisi during his time at Roar said his side were under no illusions as to the threat Friday’s opponents would pose.

“They’re definitely not going to roll over, I can tell you that for free, knowing John (Aloisi) as well, they’re going to be well prepared,” Caletti said.

“But, our main focus is always going to be on us first, so we stick to our processes and what we need to do better and how we can improve going forward.

“We’ve had a good week of training, it was good to come off an away win against, Adelaide, I think it was a big team performance from us, so hopefully we can build on that.”

Roar can go at least temporarily top of the league with a win in Friday’s match that kicks off at 5pm AEST and will be broadcast live on Paramount+.
