Defend with your life, attack with hunger: Aloisi

The hard work has been put in at training this week and now Brisbane Roar must wait to see which Sydney FC turns up in their Hyundai A-League Round 17 clash at Allianz Stadium tomorrow (6.30 KO Qld time).

“Whether they come out and press us, whether they come out and attack us or sit off, we have trained for both scenarios. We just know it is going to be a tough game,” Roar Head Coach John Aloisi said after his squad’s final training session today before heading south for tomorrow’s game.

The session was upbeat and confidence in the squad is high despite consecutive defeats in recent weeks.

Aloisi said the players had worked hard to eliminate the mistakes that had gifted goals in both losses.

“It is not like teams are playing through us because they aren’t,” the Roar Boss said.

“It is a couple of mistakes we are making and making sure we defend with that desire that we are not going to allow an easy opportunity for the opposition. That’s the main thing we worked on.

“We want to make sure we are switched on defensively for the whole game. You have to make sure you defend with your life.

“It is the same down the other end when we get in the opposition box that we are hungry and want to score goals.

“If we get that right, the way we are playing in the mid-third of the pitch ,we should be (competitive).”

Jade North

Defender Jade North (above) accepts the focus will be on the back-line after eight goals have been conceded in two weeks.

“We’ve worked hard this week trying to rectify the situation,” North said.

“It’s just small mistakes that we can fix and they are easily fixed.

“We’ve got to be a solid unit this week. We are up against a great defensive side, we know what they are about . . . we’ll be ready for them.”
