Brisbane Roar have moved to equal fourth on the Isuzu UTE A-League Men ladder after a 3-0 win over the Newcastle Jets in front of a bumper crowd on the Sunshine Coast.
The Roar, Jets and attending 7,112 crowd paid tribute to Finley Bone, a Sunshine Coast local and football fan who tragically passed away last weekend.
Once the match kicked off, the Roar started fast with a pair of chances to captain, Jay O’Shea and Sam Klein who both had their attempts on goal nullified by the Jets defence.
Both teams then began to settle in the match with Jets creating three half chances in quick succession however Roar’s defence, led by youngster, Lucas Herrington were on hand to sniff out any serious danger.
It was Herrington shortly after who found the back of the net after he climbed highest to head home a Jay O’Shea corner, sending a packed out Sunshine Coast Stadium into delirium. The remainder of the half stayed tight and tense much to the delight of the home fans.
A slow start to the second half for the Roar leading to a big chance for the Jets just three minutes into the half when Ben Gibson broke clear. His lobbed attempt however was saved well by Bouzanis to deny the youngster.
From here, the Roar began to settle into the half and it was get on the ball and it was at the 70th minute that slick move result in Henry Hore opening finding the back of the next however Michael Ruhs was deemed to be offside in the build up.
Nine minutes later. Another beautiful move from the boys saw Henry brought down in the are resulting in captain Jay O’Shea slotting it cooly from the spot to send the Roar two goals to the good.
With minutes remaining the capping moment of the afternoon came when youngster, Quinn MacNicol picked up the ball on halfway and carried it all the way to the box before unleashing a low strike that was too strong from keeper James Delianov at the near post.
The Roar will now pause for the international break before travelling to New Zealand for a clash with Auckland FC.
