Brisbane Roar fans showed their pride on a big day for the club in which Matt McKay was named captain of the Hyundai A-League side and eight Roar players were named in a Westfield Matildas training squad to prepare for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
McKay was officially given the captain’s armband as he prepares to play a club record 163rd A-League game against Central Coast Mariners in Gosford on Saturday.
His service to the club was also recognised with a two-year extension to his playing contract after this season.
Earlier today, eight players from the Roar’s W-League team were named in a 32-player Westfield Matildas squad to begin preparations for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup at a training camp in Canberra next month.
