Brisbane Roar has recorded a solid win in their final pre-season fixture of 2011, beating Brisbane Premier League club University of Queensland 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Two weeks out from the season opener and Grand Final re-match against Central Coast Mariners, Head Coach Ange Postecoglou opted for a more youthful line-up than previous road shows while giving Hyundai A-League squad members Luke Brattan, Kofi Danning and James Meyer a chance to push their claims for a regular starting berth.

The difference between the two sides was apparent early on and Brisbane raced to a three goal lead inside the first 15 minutes, courtesy of a clinical hat-trick from Meyer.

UQ never managed to test the visitors on any large scale and despite the dominance of the Roar, the score line remained 3-0 until the final whistle.

Post-match, the 25-year-old was full of confidence and reserved special praise for the youngsters playing alongside him.

“I felt good after the game and I-m really looking forward to the season starting and hopefully getting more game time this year,” Meyer said.

“I was happy to get a full 90 minutes under my belt and the three goals were a bonus.

“I was impressed with the young boys playing too, they did well within system that the coaching staff want us to play and I think the squad is looking really good ahead of the start of the season.”
