Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced that following the latest Government advice re mass gatherings that the next series of 5 matches will be played however with a closed stadiums policy and only with essential match day personnel involved.
FFA Head of Leagues, Greg O’Rourke, has been working with his team and all stakeholders to reschedule the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season in a condensed period.
Due to the postponement of Brisbane Roar’s Round 24 fixture against Melbourne Victory, as well as the Jets’ Round 24 fixture against Wellington Phoenix, the Roar will take on Newcastle Jets in a rescheduled Round 27 fixture behind closed doors at the Gold Coast’s CBUS Super Stadium on Friday, 20 March.
“As we mentioned on Monday, we have made the decision to continue playing the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season, behind closed doors, whilst closely monitoring and adhering to the current Government directives and expert advice available to us at this time,” said O’Rourke.
“Working in collaboration with our clubs, Fox Sports & ABC TV, PFA, venues and other stakeholders, we are looking to play the remaining 31 matches of the regular season in a condensed period by bringing forward matches from later rounds.
“We will continue to release the remaining fixtures on a rolling basis as we acknowledge the evolving COVID-19 protocols.
“We understand that these are difficult times for everyone and we will always put the health, welfare and safety of our players, coaches, match officials, volunteers, administrators and fans at the centre of our decision making process. Whilst fans will not be able to attend in person we urge you to continue to support your club and the Hyundai A-League by watching the matches on FOX SPORTS, ABC TV, Kayo or the My Football Live App and to get involved on social media channels” concluded O’Rourke.
