Brisbane Roar’s strong Westfield W-League campaign has been recognised with four players earning selection in the PFA’s Team of the Season.

Tameka Yallop, Clare Polkinghorne, Emily Gielnik and teenager Jamilla Rankin all secured starting XI spots after starring amid the Roar’s run to the Semi Finals.

Left-back Rankin, 17, started every game for Jake Goodship’s side and is in the running to be named the Westfield W-League Young Footballer of the Year following her February nomination.

Yallop, Polkinghorne and Gielnik all maintained their typically exceptional standards, with the latter winning the Golden Boot after netting 13 goals in 12 games.

The PFA’s Team of the Season is based on votes submitted by Westfield W-League players.

Roar defender and PFA Executive Member Kim Carroll praised each member of the full 16-player squad and all who contributed to a high-quality 2020/21 Season.

“The players have been outstanding this season and have helped to deliver one of the most entertaining campaigns in recent memory,” Carroll said.

“This team embodies the incredible talent on display this season, from experienced veterans to emerging young talent, and it’s important to acknowledge their contributions during a season like no other.

“Players have had to make additional sacrifices and deal with uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so it’s fitting that the season will conclude with a hugely anticipated Grand Final this Sunday.”
