Brisbane Roar has bolstered its attacking options ahead of the Westfield W-League 2021 Finals Series by signing exciting winger Sunny Franco.
Franco, 23, returns to the Club for a third stint in orange following an encouraging spell this season with Newcastle Jets, starting all 12 regular season games and scoring twice.
The former Young Matilda featured against the Roar in Sunday’s final round fixture in Brisbane but has now turned her attention to helping her hometown team win another Westfield W-League Grand Final.
“I think it’s the most competitive team in the league, so I definitely think it can be done,” Franco said.

“There’s a lot of depth. I think me coming into it will create that competitive team environment to keep everyone working hard. I know most of the girls at the Roar so it will be good to get home.
“If I get the minutes then I get the minutes, but if not then it means the girls have been good enough to get the job done.”
Franco last appeared for the Roar during the 2016/17 campaign, having previously debuted as a 16-year-old in December 2013.
Head Coach Jake Goodship welcomed the timely addition to his squad.
“Sunny is an experienced Westfield W-League player who I’m certain will slot comfortably into our environment at an obviously important time of the season,” Goodship said.
“She’s a talented player, very comfortable on the ball, and her playing style fits well with ours.
“With the season she’s had and her knowledge of the group, I’m looking forward to her making an impact in the Finals Series.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Newcastle Jets for making this possible, and for the respect they showed our club during our post-match presentation for Clare Polkinghorne and Emily Gielnik on Sunday.”
Further details regarding the Roar’s Westfield W-League home Semi Final will be communicated as soon as they are available.
