Brisbane Roar have claimed the inaugural Surf City Cup thanks to victories over Perth Glory and Newcastle Jets at the Croatian Sports Centre on the Gold Coast over the weekend.
A maiden Brisbane Roar goal from off-season recruit Jai Ingham proved decisive as a youthful Roar side containing 12 BRFC Academy products defeated defending Hyundai A-League Premiers Perth Glory 1-0 on Friday night.
Two days later, a fellow off-season recruit in Bradden Inman bagged a brace while Young Roar striker Mirza Muratovic was also on target as the Roar secured a 3-1 victory over the Jets.
The pair of weekend wins see Roar pick up their first silverware of the 2019/20 season, being crowned inaugural Surf City Cup Champions with a great variety of members from both the Club’s Hyundai A-League & Academy squads involved.
Speaking following Sunday’s win over the Jets, Inman says it was pleasing to string together back-to-back victories against Hyundai A-League opposition.

“The boys came here Friday and won 1-0 and then obviously we followed it up with a good 3-1 win on Sunday,” Inman said.
“It’s all new to me, it’s exciting. Newcastle are a good team and they showed it in the second half especially, they pressed us well and they got a goal back.
“I thought our boys were excellent today and we’re really gelling well together.”
The Roar’s attention now turns to continuing preparations for the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season which begins with an away date against Perth Glory at HBF Park on Sunday, 13 October (5pm KO QLD time).
