Goals add to Andrija’s aura

Some opponents still find his name hard to pronounce but there’s no denying they all now know exactly who Roar striker Andrija Kaluderovic is.

And the Serbian international intends to emphasize his goal-scoring prowess even further against Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium tonight (7.40pm kick-off) in the first game of a double header that sees the two sides clash again at the stadium on Saturday night.

Andrija has netted five goals in just eight Hyundai A-League games since joining the Roar in late January.

The 27-year-old promised goals when he first arrived in Brisbane, and after a few weeks getting back to match fitness, he has begun to deliver.

Andrija is currently scoring a goal every 87 minutes he is on the park in the Hyundai A-League.

The average is even more impressive than the goal every two games he netted while playing for Red Star Belgrade and FC Rad in the Serbian SuperLiga.

He is the fourth Roar player to score five goals in their first eight matches in the A-League, joining Besart Berisha (four games), James Meyer (seven games) and Charlie Miller (seven games).

Andrija says it has taken a little while for him and his team mates to get to know each other’s styles but he feels things are really starting to click.

“We have players who can give me quality passes – Thomas (Broich), Matty (McKay), Brattsy (Luke Brattan) – all our midfield and also (Jean Carlos) Solorzano, who gave me some great passes against Adelaide (in the Roar’s 3-2 win),” Andrija said.

“I am here to finish the creativity of my teammates.”

Andrija, who has played three times for Serbia at full international level and six times for his country’s under-23 and under-21 teams, said his aim was now to add consistency to his impressive start with the Roar.

“Five goals in eight games is OK but I must continue scoring goals,” he said.

“Every striker can run and you can a good job for the team but if you don’t score this is nothing. This is true for all the world.

“I am feeling good on the pitch, I have good communication with everybody. I am really, really happy here. There is no reason the goals will not keep coming.”
