Brisbane Roar earned a 2-1 win in their last Westfield W-League encounter at Suncorp Stadium this season, downing Canberra United in a highly entertaining game on Saturday afternoon.

United hit the front in the first half thanks to an Ashleigh Sykes goal, before Tameka Butt equalised later in the term and Katrina Gorry scored a sensational winner in the second half.

It was all Brisbane in the early going, with the home side winning a series of corners and putting the United defence under intense pressure.

Canberra came back into the game as the half progressed, however, and found the net thanks to a Sykes, who managed to wrong-foot Nadine Angerer in the Roar goal.

The end-to-end game produced more first-half entertainment when Butt poked home an equaliser after a goalmouth scramble.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first, with both sides eager to push forward and create chances.

Brisbane came close on several occasions before Gorry scored a worthy match winner, unleashing a dipping shot from 35 metres out which just snuck under the crossbar.

The hosts kept pushing forward and creating chances, with Hayley Raso and Tameka Butt particularly dangerous, and both players hitting the woodwork.

Canberra had their opportunities as well but Roar goalkeeper Nadine Angerer came to her sideā€™s rescue on several occasions.
