Dear Brisbane Roar members, fans and partners.
I would like to offer my sincere and unreserved apology, for my reaction following our match against Central Coast Mariners on Saturday night.
As Head Coach of Brisbane Roar, I am always expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism. On this occasion, I did not meet those standards when questioning the referees, and for that I am genuinely sorry. I understand that my actions disappointed some members, fans and partners, and reflected poorly on the Club I am proud to represent.
While I am deeply passionate and always fight hard for the badge, I must continue to respect decisions and processes, even when I strongly believe otherwise. In this instance, I allowed that passion to override my responsibility as Head Coach.
Because of this, I would also like to apologise directly to the match officials involved. I respect the role they play in our game and acknowledge that how I questioned their decision was not acceptable.
This season has presented ongoing challenges with officiating, which have understandably led to documented moments of frustration across the competition. While this does not excuse my actions, it is a factor that can lead to a boil over in high-pressure environments.
Both the Brisbane Roar and I will again request an in-person meeting with the Head of Referees at Football Australia. Despite being ignored previously it is my wish that we can meet, with the aim of working collaboratively to improve understanding and ultimately strengthen the game for all involved.
I look forward to engaging in this discussion in a constructive and respectful manner.
To our members, supporters and partners, thank you once again for your continued support. I remain fully committed to leading this team with integrity, respect and accountability as we work together to take this Club forward.
Michael Valkanis
