Brisbane Roar’s rising star Hollie Palmer has been named the Westfield W-League’s Young Footballer of the Year nominee for February.

Palmer featured in three games in February, starting twice and coming on as a half-time substitute against Melbourne City to become one of only four players to score against the Premiers all season in the 3-1 defeat.

The Young Matilda also produced an assist, with a left-wing cross, for Carson Pickett’s headed goal in Brisbane’s 5-0 win against Canberra United in Round 13 on February 23.

The 19-year-old finished her third Westfield W-League season with 12 appearances in total, starting five of the last six games as the Queenslanders fell five-points short of a Finals Series place.

Palmer also scored her maiden two competition goals in 2019/20, her first senior strike arriving in the 2-1 win against Newcastle Jets back in Round 7 – a 69th-minute match-winner.

Palmer joins City’s international star and 2018/19 winner Ellie Carpenter (January), Roar teammate Indiah-Paige Riley (December) and Western Sydney Wanderers ace Kyra Cooney-Cross (November) in the running for the Young Football of the Year award.
