Isuzu UTE A-League preview: Brisbane Roar v Wellington Phoenix

Brisbane Roar will be itching to turn belief into points in a rematch with Wellington Phoenix at Moreton Daily Stadium on Wednesday.

Frustration and pride were the prevailing emotions after the rollercoaster weekend defeat to second-placed Western United, which the Roar ended with 10 men following a first-half red card for Jordan Holmes.

Warren Moon’s men still almost came away with a draw amid a flurry of late opportunities and penalty appeals.

The fighting spirit left the Head Coach with plenty to like and he now wants reward for effort to support a charge towards the top six.

“We still believe. We’re not giving up on anything and that’s been the message for a few weeks now,” said Moon, who is set to coach his 50th Isuzu UTE A-League game.

“Even before the couple of wins we had we still believed in ourselves and we still believe now that we can go on a run.

“The boys are in positive spirits. We performed well under the circumstances [on Saturday]. Disappointed that we’ve put in two fairly good performances last week and got nothing from both the Western United and Melbourne City games.

“We feel a bit hard done by but we’ve got to keep going, got to keep searching for a performance to get three points.

“If we can do that we feel we’re a match for any side in the comp.”

Brisbane beat Wellington when the teams met just over two weeks ago, with Rahmat Akbari and Henry Hore on the scoresheet in a 2-1 win.

Akbari will miss this match as he travels back to Australia from Turkey and Moon will have to carefully manage several others as the club forges through an extremely heavy fixture schedule.

“We have to rotate the squad,” the Head Coach said.

“We’ve got players in certain positions who need to be managed. It’s going to be a squad game for the next three weeks given the hectic schedule. We’ve got to try to protect everyone.”
