Isuzu UTE A-League report: O’Shea penalty earns point in Parramatta

Jay O’Shea converted a stoppage-time penalty to earn Brisbane Roar a 1-1 draw with Western Sydney Wanderers at CommBank Stadium on Saturday.

Wanderers keeper Daniel Margush gifted the Irish midfielder the chance to equalise in the 92nd minute when he rugby tackled Alex Parsons to the floor after being caught in possession in his own box.

O’Shea punished the error with a nerveless spot-kick as the 10-man Roar gained reward for effort, having toiled hard following Tom Aldred’s dismissal for a second bookable offence with just over 20 minutes to go.

The late show, which cancelled out Jack Hingert’s unfortunate first-half own goal, gives Brisbane some additional momentum going into two more away games, beginning with a trip to AAMI Park to face Melbourne Victory on Tuesday.

It’s the first of two meetings inside a fortnight, with the Roar to host Victory on Anzac Day.

GOALS

Western Sydney Wanderers | Jack Hingert OG (41′)

Jack Rodwell breaks unmarked into the box and squares in the direction of Bernie Ibini, who forces the ball in off Hingert.

Brisbane Roar | Jay O’Shea (90’+2)

Western Sydney play a long back-pass to Margush. The keeper looks to wind down the clock with the ball at feet but Parsons applies pressure and nicks possession before being dragged to the ground with the goal at his mercy. The referee points to the spot and sends off Margush, leaving O’Shea to stroke home the equaliser.
