Isuzu UTE A-League report: Roar beaten by Pain volley in Geelong

Jay O'Shea

Brisbane Roar succumbed to an unstoppable Connor Pain strike in a 1-0 away defeat against Western United in Isuzu UTE A-League action on Saturday.

After making several fine saves in a goalless first half in Geelong, Roar goalkeeper Macklin Freke was powerless to prevent Pain’s 50th-minute volley from finding the net and earning the hosts all three points.

Jay O’Shea had the best of Brisbane’s attempts at GMHBA Stadium, with one over the bar in the first half and another on target in the second, while Rahmat Akbari scuffed an opportunity wide in stoppage time.

The Roar will return to the training track this week knowing improvement is needed before a big Moreton Daily Stadium clash with Perth Glory.

The Saturday night match is part of a double-header involving the Liberty A-League side’s game against Melbourne Victory, which kicks off at 4:05pm.
