Kappa Pro Series R2 Match Wrap: Rochedale Rovers 2-0 Young Roar

Young Roar fell to a 2-0 defeat against Rochedale Rovers in Kappa Pro Series Group D action at Underwood Park on Tuesday night.

Second half strikes from Anton Alexeekno and Emad Ali Sheme sealed all three points for the home side in Tuesday’s match.

Sam Flannery produced a big save in the in the 12th minute to deny Ali Sheme after the forward found space inside the Roar penalty area.

Roar had the opportunity to open the scoring from the penalty spot in the 30th minute after Forbes Porter was brought down inside the area but Noah Maieroni’s effort was denied by Nicholas Cowley.

Ten minutes later Porter continued to threaten down the left flank, latching onto a loose ball in behind the Rovers defence before Cowley again came up big for the home side.

The hosts started the second half strongly forcing Flannery into a number of strong saves before Alexeenko broke clear of the Roar defence and finished one-on-one to open the scoring in the 65th minute.

Five minutes Ty Cobb came within inches of an equaliser when his one-on-one attempt was smothered by Cowley before the Rovers defence scrambled the ball clear off the goaline.

Ali Sheme doubled Rochedale’s lead when he got in behind and poked home a finish from a tight angle to round of the 2-0 scoreline in the 77th minute.

Tuesday’s results leave Roar level in third position in Kappa Pro Series Group D after two rounds of action.

Next up for Roar is a trip down the M1 to face Magic United in their third group stage match on Saturday afternoon.
