Kappa Pro Series R5 Preview: Sunshine Coast Wanderers vs Young Roar

Young Roar look to take a big step towards a spot in the Kappa Pro Series Quarter Finals when they face Sunshine Coast Wanderers at Ballinger Park on Wednesday night.

Roar, Wanderers, Brisbane Strikers and St George Willawong all sit level on six points, three adrift of Group B leaders Gold Coast Knights heading into this week’s final round of group stage matches.

Andre Bennett’s side have taken two wins and two losses so far in the Pro Series and can secure a Quarter Final berth with a win against the Wanderers if other results go their way.

Roar are unbeaten in four heading into Wednesday’s match in run that’s seem them defeat Rochedale Rovers, Brisbane Strikers and most recently Olympic FC.

Strikes from Ayom Majok & Quinn MacNicol coupled with an own goal secured the points in a 3-2 victory at Nudgee Recreation Reserve as Roar climbed to seventh on the NPL Queensland ladder after nine rounds of action.

MacNicol’s first goal of the 2024 NPL Queensland season came after the midfielder represented the Joeys in Italy earlier in April, finding the back of the net in matches against Switzerland and Inter Milan.

He was joined in the Joeys squad by Rhys Williams, who came off the bench in Sunday’s win over Olympic.

Sunshine Coast Wanderers who are Coached by former Brisbane Roar Head Coach, Nick Green currently sit tenth on the NPL ladder and suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Rochedale in their last outing.

There is no stream for Wednesday’s match at Ballinger Park which kicks off at 7:30pm.
