Last ditch Vidic header seals Roar New Year’s Eve win on the Central Coast

Brisbane Roar closed out 2025 with a last ditch 2-1 win against Central Coast Mariners in Isuzu UTE A-League New Year’s Eve action at Polytec Stadium.

A 92nd minute Justin Vidic header sealed the points after Michael Ruhs opened the scoring in Wednesday’s Round 10 clash.

Ruhs opened the scoring with his first A-League goal for Brisbane in the 21st minute when he played a one-two with Chris Long before slotting a finish past Andrew Redmayne.

Mariners levelled the scores in the 29th minute when Mauragis deflected effort from the edge of the area found it’s way into the back of the net on the end of a short corner from the home side.

Just as the match looked set to finish in a draw a Jay O’Shea pinpoint cross picked out substitute, Vidic who’s back post header beat Redmayne, sealing all three points for Roar.

Wednesday’s result leaves Roar in third position on the Isuzu UTE A-League ladder after 10 rounds of action.

Michael Valkanis’ side kick off the new year against Wellington Phoenix in a double header at Kayo Stadium on Saturday January, 3. Get your tickets HERE
