A late penalty from Jay O’Shea has given Brisbane Roar a point in their 1-1 draw against Adelaide United in their Friday night clash at Kayo Stadium.
There were only two changes to Warren Moon’s starting XI which took on Sydney FC over a month ago with Rahmat Akbari and Riku Danzaki coming in for Carlo Armiento and Joe Knowles.
After a scoreless first half, it was Adelaide who hit the back of the net after a corner found substitute George Blackwood’s head.
After going down a goal, the Roar brought on Armiento who would turn out to be one of the deciding factors in the match.
As Armiento went on a run in the box, the young forward was taken down by Javier López.
With O’Shea stepping up to take the penalty, in the absence of Austin who was substituted earlier in the match, the Irish maestro drew the scores level.
“The first 20 minutes, we weren’t good enough,” Moon said.
“For the game plan we had, I wasn’t happy with the way it was going so we made changes and straight away we saw a shift in the match.
“The good thing about this group is that we’ve found a way to go all the way to the end, created some chances and had the penalty…in the end I thought it was a deserved point,” he added.
