LIBERTY A-LEAGUE PRE-SEASON: FIRST DAY

Brisbane Roar’s Liberty A-League squad began their preseason today with Head Coach Garrath McPherson kicking off preparations to work towards their first match, only five weeks away.

McPherson believes today’s session was a success with the team already working towards their goals and making progress from day one.

“There was focus, a lot of noise, a lot of smiles and some tired bodies at the end of the session – so a very successful start. The group are pushing for a mindset that is unbreakable and it was on display from start to finish of today’s session,” he said.

Today marked American striker Mia Corbin’s arrival to Australia, and even fighting jetlag, she was eager to meet her teammates.

“She was straight off the plane to the ground and Brisbane turned on the weather for her arrival. It was nice for the team to meet her and say hello and grab a first day photo. She has a very busy day ahead of her and will be resting up, ready to get on the pitch,” McPherson said.

Heading into her first year in the vice-captaincy role, Mariel Hecher looks forward to leading her team through a successful season alongside captain Eash Norrie with a focus on bringing back “the Brisbane standards”.

“First day of preseason is always an exciting moment. Good to see everyone and getting the gang back together so looking forward to the season ahead,” Hecher said.

“We’re hoping to bring back the Brisbane standards, achieving the Grand Final and hopefully being Premiers, but definitely finishing top four, that’s our main goal this season” she added.

With many new faces around, and the buzz of the FIFA Women’s World Cup still prominent, this season is set to be a big one and the squad is ready for it.
