Liberty A-League report: Roar edged after late deflection

Brisbane v Perth

Brisbane Roar suffered a second cruel Liberty A-League loss in as many weeks when a freak deflection gave Perth Glory a late 1-0 win at Perry Park on Friday night.

Alana Jancevski’s shot struck Mariel Hecher’s outstretched leg and looped up into the top corner in the 86th minute to deny Brisbane what would have been a thoroughly deserved first point of the season in front of a strong home crowd.

It was an unlucky end to a match that saw Garrath McPherson’s side rack up 20 shots to eight, with Anna Margraf stinging Morgan Aquino’s palms in the first half and then clipping the woodwork with a cross in the second.

The Roar must now regroup ahead of next Saturday’s big meeting with Melbourne Victory at Moreton Daily Stadium, part of a double header involving the club’s Isuzu UTE A-League side.

The first match kicks off 4:05pm and tickets are on sale now.

Goals

Perth Glory | Alana Jancevski (86′)

0-1 – Perth’s corner is headed away to Jancevski, who scuffs a shot towards goal that bounces up off Hecher’s knee and spins into the top corner.
