Sydney FC proved too strong for Brisbane Roar on Wednesday as the Liberty A-League leaders claimed a 2-0 win at Leichhardt Oval.
Early goals in each half and a red card for Annabel Haffenden in the 59th minute meant the Roar were forced to head home empty handed from a clash with the competition’s only unbeaten team.
Brisbane knocked on the door in the first half but were unable to find a way past Jada Whyman, who set a league record with an eighth consecutive clean sheet.
One upside for the Roar was the involvement of 17-year-old substitute Aleeah Davern, who became the seventh player to earn a Liberty A-League debut for the club this season.
Next up for Garrath McPherson’s side is a home game against Adelaide United next Sunday, 13 February, part of a double-header involving the Isuzu UTE A-League team’s meeting with Macarthur FC.
